SABA-SC held its annual Mentorship Reception on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the gorgeous rooftop space provided by Nixon Peabody LLP. Over 90 attendees, including judges, attorneys, legal professionals, and law students, enjoyed delicious food and drink while networking and mingling. The event served as a kick-off to the SABA-SC Mentorship Program, which achieved record levels of participation this year. Participants had the opportunity to meet with their paired mentor or mentee at the Reception.
The event recognized Purvi Patel, Partner at Morrison Foerster, as Mentor of the Year. Ms. Patel is a recognized leader and mentor for the South Asian legal community, a consistent participant in SABA-SC’s Mentorship Program, and a past-president of SABA-SC. SABA-SC was also proud to award merit scholarships to two deserving recipients, Anusha Ravi and Nikita Aneja, both have whom have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the South Asian community.
Our two accomplished Keynote Speakers for the evening, Sandhya Ramadas (Associate Principal Counsel at The Walt Disney Company) and Hon. Consuelo B. Marshall (United States District Court for the Central District of California) provided their remarks regarding the importance of mentorship and citizenship in the legal community, as well as the role it has played in their own lives as both mentors and mentees.
